HIV-Associated Vitiligo Totalis with Minimal Repigmentation and Alopecia Areata Diffusa During Immune-Reconstitution

چکیده
Background: Cutaneous findings in the setting of HIV infection encompass a broad spectrum of diseases. Only few cases of vitiligo or alopecia areata have been described in HIV/AIDS patients and it remains unclear whether there is a causal relationship between HIV/AIDS and these two conditions. Observations: Our patient initially presented with diffuse generalized pruritic hypoand depigmented macules and patches. She was diagnosed with advanced HIV/AIDS at that time. There was progression to vitiligo totalis followed by partial repigmentation and generalized alopecia areata diffusa with immune-reconstitution. Conclusions: This is, to our knowledge, the first case of rapidly progressing vitiligo totalis in a patient with advanced HIV/AIDS. We conclude that this, together with the observation of repigmentation during immune-reconstitution, suggests a causal relation between vitiligo and HIV/AIDS. The different time course of the also observed alopecia areata diffusa, with first manifestation during immune-reconstitution, may be due to differences in the immune-pathogenesis between vitiligo and alopecia areata.

Association of Vitiligo and Alopecia Areata With Atopic Dermatitis: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.
IMPORTANCE Previous studies found conflicting results as to whether atopic dermatitis (AD) is increased in patients with vitiligo and alopecia areata (AA). OBJECTIVE To compare the prevalence of AD between patients with either vitiligo or AA and those without these disorders by performing a meta-analysis of observational studies. DATA SOURCES MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, Google Schola...

متن کاملDiphencyprone Induced Vitiligo: A Case Report
Diphencyprone (DCP) is a contact sensitizer which is used to treat dermatological disorders with an immunological origin, such as extensive alopecia areata (AA). Vitiligo is a rare but known side effect of DPCP therapy which is formed in the treatment site or remote areas. In this paper a 37-year-old man developed alopecia totalis with loss of eyebrows and eyelashes who presented some vitiligo ...
متن کاملDiphenylcyclopropenone-Induced Vitiligo in a Patient with Alopecia Universalis
Alopecia areata and vitiligo are autoimmune diseases, both associated with multiple autoimmune comorbidities. Many studies show colocalization of these diseases at the same anatomical site. Here, we have a case where both disorders were reported to present in the same patient. Diphenylcyclopropenone (diphencyprone, DCP) is used in the treatment of alopecia areata and may induce vitiligo in some...
متن کاملAlopecia Areata Associated with Localized Vitiligo
Alopecia areata is a common cause of noncicatricial alopecia that occurs in a patchy, confluent or diffuse pattern. It may occur as a single, self-limiting episode or may recur at varying intervals over many years. The association of alopecia areata with localized vitiligo has not been reported. The association of alopecia areata with localized vitiligo in the same patient is documented here; i...
